Vampire flicks have always been alluring to me, since as a child I was smitten by Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. Maybe it was "Nosferatu" that started things off, but I believe that he was a little too hideous and directors quickly learned that a sexy Dracula is a better idea (with apologies to Max Schreck). Several other vampires have certainly left their mark, including Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Anne Rice's "Interview with a Vampire" and Stewart Townsend in the follow-up, "Queen of the Damned." "Dark Shadows" was one of my favorite television shows as a teenager; I'd run home from school in a tizzy to see it. So that I would enjoy "Twilight" kind of went without saying, especially with this surge of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson mania. Where there's smoke, there's fire, right?
A romantic vampire movie produced by, directed by and starring women..... Wow. Finally. I took a class called "Women in History" about a year ago and it was depressing to learn how women's contributions to society and the world at large had been diminished, squelched or plain destroyed. Hypatia of Alexandria was a brilliant philosopher, mathematician and astronomer and inventor who lived around 350 AD. She was murdered by a horde of monks and her works were all burned by marauding zealots. Only some correspondence between her and one of her students survived. Many women throughout history had to hide their gender as writers, artists and performers. You may have heard of how women who wanted to serve their country bound their breasts and went into battle posing as men. Virginia Woolf once said, "For most of history, Anonymous was a woman." So in a way, "Twilight" symbolizes a moment in our time when women can stand toe-to-toe with men, at least in pop culture. (We have still not elected a woman as President, but that is another essay entirely.)
As a video producer myself, I appreciated the muted tones of the film. I've observed a creative use of filters to define a series or a movie. For instance, "CSI Miami" employs rich, gorgeous colors while "Supernatural" desaturates color, using pastel accents. In "Twilight," Bella's rusty red truck moved across the landscape of the film like a drop of blood on an ingenue's pale skin. Some of the special effects were excellent. When Edward Cullin flies Bella Swan to the top of the tallest tree in the forest overlooking the Washington coast, the wire work was impeccable. Edward's bursts of speed, and his showings of great strength were cinematically delicious.
Kristen Stewart's awkward teenager alongside Robert Pattinson's otherworldly 300-year-old vampire made for mesmerizing screen chemistry. I was happy that they didn't play "cat and mouse" with their feelings about each other for too long. Maybe director, Catherine Hardwicke, as a woman who knows what women really want, had a heavy hand in that. Why not just be up front from the very beginning, like Bella? Why mince words and hide your feelings? The tension was so strong that it took nearly the entire movie to see the two of them kiss. No disingenuous sex for sex's sake here.
Bella is a girl who knows what she wants, and she wants Edward, forever. And we, the audience, all want it to work for them. It's a good thing that "Twilight 2" is in the can. Bella and Edward may be young forever, but Robert and Kristen won't.
The Twilight phenomenon continues with the movie Eclipse. Gossip about it is prevalent on Twitter and all the social media channels. Articles abound in magazines, ezines and television talk shows. A cast member, Robert Pattinson talks in riddles when he appears on one of the many talk shows and during interviews. It is easy to imagine the Twilight star, Robert Pattinson being followed down the street by a line of young girls and women. He seems to be getting the most exposure as a celebrity. His character, Edward Cullen, gets more attention than the Royals in UK and President Obama in the US. The public can't get enough of him.
Now this may or may not be a one-pair prank, but his handsome face is plastered on the front of a pair of panties. There are many jokes about these garments. There are just as many girls wanting to know where they can buy a pair. Some lines are not meant to be crossed. This is one of them. On February 21, Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame won the Orange Rising Star award at the British Academy Awards. When she received it in London, guess who was in the audience to cheer her on? Although the hot couple didn't arrive at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden together, they both arrived to the delight of all those lined up alongside the red carpet.
The beautiful Kristen Stewart had eleven months off between the final shooting of Twilight in April of 2008, and the beginning of New Moon production. Then production of Eclipse started only seven weeks after New Moon was finished. When Kristen returned to playing Bella Swan in Eclipse, she said she had new purpose as the vampire-loving teenager. Kristen, AKA Bella said she wasn't tortured as she was in New Moon. In Eclipse she's more than just a teenager in love. She did not think the role of Bella in Eclipse was easy to play. She matures during the course of the movie including graduation and engagement to Edward Cullen (Pattinson of course).
For a time she was romantically inclined towards Taylor Lautner's character, Jacob. She said that romantic role was hard to play. The reason was because she thinks of Lautner as a brother. Her love (as Bella) for Pattinson (as Cullen) draws her back. Her character really loves his character in the movie Eclipse. Her sisterly feelings for Jacob made it difficult to kiss him in the role of Bella. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the engagement of Edward and Bella. It turns out it was worth waiting for. The romantic scene will take place in Edward's bedroom. It involves Bella, Edward and a four poster bed.
As fans around the world gear up to watch Twilight Eclipse this summer, the third movie in the Twilight Saga, the internet has become a buzz with all kinds of Twilight trivia, Twilight parodies, and Twilight rumors. It seems like every other day another supermarket tabloid releases a questionable "interview" with one of the stars of Twilight. Is Robert Pattinson dating Kristen Stewart? Is Taylor Lautner really dead? Is Dakota Fanning a vampire in real life? Is Robert Pattinson straight? The list goes on and on..
If you're not a hardcore Twilight fan you probably don't care much about all this fanfare, but if you plan on going to watch Twilight Eclipse with some of your friends in theatres, there are some basic elements of the story that you should familiarize yourself with before heading out to watch the Twilight Eclipse movie so you're not lost when the action begins.
The Twilight Saga, written by author Stephanie Meyer and directed by David Slade, centers around the life of Isabella Swan, a young and socially awkward girl played by Kristen Stewart that moves from Phoenix to live with her father in Washington state. Bella, as she is affectionately known by her friends, is a quiet girl with low self esteem who tends to keep to herself at first. During her first days in her new school she encounters a young boy named Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, who she finds interesting. At first, Edward shuns and avoids her, making Bella feel even more self conscious about herself, but he eventually warms up to her and they become friends. Edward is adored by all the other girls in school and Bella cannot understand why he bothers to spend so much time around her.
Over the course of the next few days she notices very curious and unexplainable events surrounding her friendship with Edward Cullen. One day he saves her life in the school parking lot by stopping a car that was careening out of control towards her with his bare hands. He is also strangely absent from school on sunny days, and has noticeably pale skin that is cold to the touch. As Bella's suspicions and curiosity reach a boiling point, she begins to investigate these oddities and eventually learns that Edwards strangeness is indeed unique. He is a vampire. Feeling like you want to watch to watch Twilight Eclipse yet?
As the story progresses the two begin to fall in love and spend more and more time with each. Edward tells Bella that she is the only thing in his life that he feels is worth living for. The action in Twilight picks up when other rival vampires come to town and begin attacking humans randomly as the locals attribute the attacks to wild animals. At one point Bella's life is threatened by these other vampires and Edward and the rest of the Cullen family try to protect her from them as they pursue her. Bella ends up being bitten by one of the vampires during a confrontation and is saved only when Edwards is forced to drink her blood in order to remove the poison.
The story continues in Twilight New Moon as Bella and Edward are spending their days together in quiet happiness. During a birthday celebration for Bella at the Cullens residence Bella accidentally cuts her hand and sets off an incident in which Jasper Hale, played by Jackson Rathbone, loses control at the sight of her blood and tries to attack her. The situation is quickly diffused by Edward, but he realizes how selfish he is being by constantly putting Bella's life in danger by allowing her to be with him. He tell her that he loves her but that he has no choice but to leave her and never see her again. Bella is devastated by Edward's absence and falls into a deep depression shortly after him and his family leave town. She stops seeing her friends and speaks to almost nobody other than her own father. In her sadness, she begins to hallucinate and sees ghostly images of Edward wherever she goes.
She eventually finds solace in an old childhood friend, Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. Jacob is a Native American boy who Bella knew in her youth because their fathers are old friends. As she spends more and more time with Jacob she momentarily begins to forget Edward and finds herself having feelings for Jacob, though he is younger than her by a few years. Jacob also has strong feelings towards Bella and eventually lets her know how he feels about her. A short while later Jacob disappears for a period of time, and when he returns to see Bella she finds out that he too has a secret that he has been keeping from her. Jacob Black is a werewolf. Still not sure if you want to watch Twilight Eclipse yet?
Just around this time Ashley Cullen, played by Ashley Greene, arrives in town and tells Bella that her brother Edward has gone to see a group of ruthless vampires known as the Volturi in order to commit suicide because he is under the impression that Bella was dead. Ashley has visions of future and during one of her visions she saw Bella jumping into the water and drowning and Edward found out about it. Of course Bella had not really drowned that day and was actually saved by her friend Jacob.
Bella rushes to stop Edward from committing suicide by revealing himself to humanity as a vampire, for which he will be executed by the vicious Volturi clan. She is successful in stopping Edward and he tells her that he has always loved her and only left to protect her and the thought of her no longer being alive was too much for him to bear and that is why he wanted to kill himself. Though Jacob and Edward are sworn enemies, the two agree to a truce for the sake of protecting Bella, as long as the Cullens never bite a human.
Bella very much wants to become a vampire so that she can be with Edward without growing old and dying. Although very much opposed to the idea of turning Bella into a vampire, Edward tells her that if she will marry him, Edward will change her himself after a short while.
Adventureland hit movie stores and online outlets this past week. Don't worry if you didn't see this movie in the theaters or haven't had a chance to rent it, because you've seen this movie before. Adventureland follows an old formula: boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Something happens that make boy and girl break up. Of course, they still love each other. Then something happens that brings boy and girl back together.
It's not that formulas are bad. Plenty of movies are based on the same concepts and ideas. For example: Something tragic happens to character X's family. Character X seeks revenge. Character X gets his revenge. Apply this formula one way and we get The Outlaw Josey Wales. Apply it in another way and we get Punisher: Warzone. The difference is that the first movie had something to say and the second movie was an excuse to show explosions on the big screen.
Adventureland falls into the second category of movie that has nothing to say. Greg Mottola, who directed Superbad, has brought nothing new to a genre that is already crowded by other movies saying the exact same thing. It's Say Anything, without the boom box. It's Jerry Maguire without the You had me at hello. It's The Notebook, but without the notebook.
I could almost forgive Mottola for creating a movie that has no interest in being anymore than what it is. Not every film can have a defining moment that captures an audience's heart or defines a generation. However, every movie should have characters that the audience cares about. There should be some connection between characters in a movie and the audience. Audiences wanted Marty McFly to get back to the future just as much as they wanted Biff to get his butt kicked. We loved Marty: we hated Biff. However, we had a connection with Biff, because we have all known a Biff that we wanted to punch in the nose.
Mottola has failed to create and develop characters that we care about one-way or the other. If James and Em get back together, that's fine. If they don't get back together, that's fine. If Mike is cheating on his wife, that's fine. If they all get hit by a bus, that's fine too. The impression is that Mottola doesn't care about his characters and if a director doesn't care about his characters then why should we? It's a shame, because the film has a very talented roster.
In the lead role of James is Jesse Eisenberg. James is the self-deprecating, uncomfortable, nerdy guy who is figuring out life. Eisenberg is perfect in the role. He has perfected this same character in other movies like Rodger Dodger and The Hunting Party. Even money says that he will play the same type of character in Zombieland (hmmm.....Adventureland to Zombieland. Coincidence? ).
Playing Eisenberg's love interest is Kristen Stewart...give me a moment to regain my composure.... Stewart plays Em, the girl that shows James the amusement park ropes. I will go on record right now saying, "I like Kristen Stewart." She reminds me of the girl in school (high school, GED classes, college) who is hotter than a three-alarm fire, but has a low self-esteem. You know the girl who has to cover everything, from the bangs that go past her eyes to the baggy clothes that cover everything else. The girl who thinks that she has to look weird and reject others before they can reject her. The girl who could have anyone, if she were to give it half a chance.
Of course, James falls deeply and madly in love with her before she even opens her mouth. I don't blame the guy; it's Kristen Stewart! However, there is not one single moment in the film that we can see a spark between the two of them. The movie goes from the two of them meeting and then jumps to them being in love. It just happens and we have to go along with it, because Mottola hasn't given us any other choice.
In this type of movie there is always something that tears the happy couple apart. Playing the wedge that comes between James and Em is Mike, played by Ryan Reynolds. I like Reynolds as an actor. He has talent and in movies, like Adventureland, he gets to show it. Too often we see Reynolds in movies where he is the smart ass or the class clown. I admit it; he does a great job in movies like Van Wilder, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, and Waiting. But, it's movies like Definitely, Maybe, The Nines and The Amityville Horror that we really get to see Reynolds shine.
Mike, the amusement park's handy man, had had an affair with Em. James freaks out after he learns that the two of them had something going on in the past. Of course, he doesn't want to see her again. This is not the sad moment that it should be because Mottola has shoved on us a love connection between James and Em that we never believed in the first place. We still don't care when James realizes he made a mistake dumping a hottie like Kristen Stewart and tries to win her back.
Nineteen- year old Kristen Stewart also known as Isabella "Bella" Marie Swan on the Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga is back with her irresistible charisma that will surely blow you away.
Kristen Stewart, seems to be more lady- like in the Twilight Saga third installment of the movie adaptation of Eclipse. Being the apple of the eye of a vampire, Edward Cullen, characterized by the handsome Rob Pattinson and of the hottie Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, Bella (Stewart) is now getting more confuse of with her feeling for the two guys.

Despite of Bella's second thoughts of about marriage, considering the effect of her parents' divorce, Bella still decided to be one with Edward. But the story doesn't end there, because trouble awaits the love story of the vampire and the mortal.
Victoria, who's definitely back in rage, will bring the dilemma for the couple. Because of this, Jacob offers his hand to Edward as they become Bella's guardians. But as Jacob and Bella goes deeper in their friendship, so as Jacob's feelings for her. Edward, being man enough, he manages to deal this issue as he accepts that this was the consequence of leaving Bella on New Moon.
On the third installment of Twilight Saga: Eclipse, wait as Bella face the new chapter of her life as she accepts Edward's proposal. How will Jacob bear Bella's decision? Watch out as Summit Entertainment proudly brings you to the reunion of Edward and Bella, be part of the joined forces of the long- time rivals - the vampires and the werewolves as they combat against Victoria's plot against Bella.
Many of you remember her as Bella Swan, the love interest of Edward Cullen and Jacob Black in the Twilight saga. She is the actress behind the sweet and mysterious girl who lives is Forks, Washington, who seems to live a normal life, until she falls in love with Edward, and later on with Jacob. She is the classy actress behind this role which has sky-rocketed the popularity of the novels, and her popularity as an actress herself. The second installment of the Twilight Saga is coming very soon, and her fame will only be much more felt as the opening night comes close. However, her acting resume does not end in the Twilight movies alone. She has proven in her other projects that she is a versatile actress. For more information about Kristen Stewart - and the making of "The Runaways" movie, all you have to do is read on.
Kirsten Stewart is behind the up and coming movie The Runaways. This movie chronicles the journey of the group with the same name in the mid seventies. This movie depicts the story of the teenage girls who were disrespectfully manipulated by their manager, Kim Fowley. They may have faced a lot of challenges in their journey, but the Runaways eventually made it big. They are often regarded as the first all-girl band that has joined the elite list of bands that consistently fill arenas with their rock acts.
The movie focuses on the origin of the band, how the band got into place, and its ultimate rise to success and fame. Cherry Bomb, the band's first hit in the United States, became their flagship song and placed their band in the music industry. One successful concert after another helped make them even more famous. They did not only make it big here in the U.S, since they also became quite popular in the rest of the world. They particularly stamped their band's worldwide fame when they reached Japan. Their hit song Neon Angels on the Road to Ruin stayed popular for a very long time there and in most of the world.
Kirsten Stewart stars as Joan Jett in this movie. She did a lot of rehearsals during the making of this movie. Her role is the exact opposite of her role in Twilight, so she had to forget her Bella Swan side and become the iconic rock chick that her role demanded her to be.
She has a steamy scene with fellow popular actress Dakota Fanning. This scene has catapulted the movie to newer heights of popularity. It has made the internet world searching and reading about the movie months before its release. Kirsten even remarked that doing the steamy scene with Dakota Fanning was undoubtedly awkward at first, but then became easy and free flowing later on.
Beautiful vampire girl, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson together make the perfect match. What if, Robert Pattison had to patch up with another girl instead of Kristen Stewart? Could we give the same preference to both celebrities like we do now? Would they pop up with those rumors, which often basking in the Hollywood realm?
You might be thinking what is the point of discussion? Twilight was first time offered to Frances Bean who rejected the offer with a statement that she does not like to work in fiction based movies. She also got offers for working in Alice in Wonderland.
What if she would accept the role against Robert Pattinson? They both would have been called up like Robbean or Robrances...whatever. In my opinion, without Kristen, this movie could not dig up much all over the world. Twilight Series are tinseled down in the entertainment empire just because of charming beauty of Twilight duo who makes their on-screen chemistry interesting as well as rumored off-screen chemistry juiciest.
People only want to see this couple in real life too. Reason is very obvious. Couple is a good match with each other and provides pleasing effect to the eyes of public.
With Frances, Robert might not look as gorgeous and cute as he gives impression with innocent Kristen Stewart. When Catherin Hardwicke saw Kristen first time, she had been selected promptly because she was giving crystal clear imitation of Bella Swan in Twilight Saga. Kristen, without you, movie could not give good results so far...Breaking Dawn will splattered unusual spell again in the minds of Twi-fans. I am damn sure about it.
