Hot tubs are like small pools with heated water that could be used for relaxation and massages. The earliest hot tubs are made of cedar, redwood and teak. Some hot tubs today are still made of the same material but there are also hot tubs made of plastic or fiberglass.
There are two kinds of hot tubs popularly used nowadays - the indoor hot tub and the portable hot tub. Usually hot tubs are located outdoors but nowadays most people prefer for it to be placed indoors. Indoor hot tubs are preferred by people who like to go soaking and do relaxation inside the comfort and security of their homes. This way they could have access to the hot tub anytime of the day without having to worry about security and privacy. The portable tub, on the other hand, is preferred by people who have the tendency to change locations and want to take their hot tub with them when they want to.
Aside from providing relaxation and socialization, there are many other benefits that hot tubs can offer that are mostly health related. Hot tubs can reduce stress levels with its swirling warm water that can calm the senses and relax the mind, making it take away anxiety. It can also help cure insomnia because the heated water helps to raise body temperature, which in turn enhances the ability of a person to fall asleep easily. Hot tubs could also improve respiratory conditions because of the steam that comes off from the hot water.
With its many health benefits, many trainers and therapists recommend the use of hot tubs as warm water therapy that helps patients get back to their best physical condition faster. Those with heart conditions can get the benefits of exercising without straining the heart by soaking in hot water because hot bath could increase the heart rate and at the same time lower blood pressure. Hot tubs could also be used for hydrotherapy to relieve people of chronic back pains and knee ailments.
So you see, aside from providing ways on how to spend time with people in a relaxing manner, hot tubs have many health benefits to offer. Having a hot tub is a great way to bond with family and friends at the comfort of your own home.
Since ancient times, hot tubs have been widely popular through out the world. This popularity began when the therapeutic uses of hot water were discovered. Since this discovery people have wanted to bath in hot water like the hot springs produce. Hot tubs are a good way to relax after a long stressful day; you can just feel how the tension leaves your body as you are soaking in the hot water. Many people who do not have access to their own private hot tubs visit spas to experience all the wonder that is the hot tub. There are also people who have the luxury of having private hot tubs. Hot tubs are superb luxuries, so protect them with hot tub covers.
If you own a hot tub you know that having one requires maintenance to keep it in good running order. You should always take proper care of your hot tub. You can protect you water and your filter by investing in a hot tub cover to keep out dirt and dust that may happen to fly in. Having a cover on the hot tub when it is not in use is a good way to keep accidents from happening. The cover will, for the most part, keep animals, kids and objects from falling or jumping into the hot tub. Outdoor tubs are particularly at risk for things, living or non-living, getting into the water.
Medical researchers have conducted a few studies concerning Zoloft and hot flashes. A few more studies have been done concerning Paxil and hot flashes. Twice as many published studies have focused on black cohosh and hot flashes and there are even more concerning this herb and other symptoms related to menopause. Why so many studies?
Traditional herbal remedies are often the subject of scientific scrutiny, because modern medicine would like to either "prove" or "disprove" their effectiveness. They would also like to know "why" botanical remedies are effective; so, many studies revolve around isolating the active component.
Researchers began studying antidepressants like Zoloft and hot flashes in 2002, around the same time that the Women's Health Initiative released conclusions concerning the long-term health risks associated with hormone replacement therapy. Research concerning Paxil and hot flashes prior to 2002 focused on breast cancer survivors who are unable to use estrogen replacement therapy.
Scientists and researchers are unable to explain why these drugs may be effective, or even why they would be considered for use. It is likely that they were prescribed to women who were suffering from depression, which sometimes accompanies menopause. These women may have reported a reduction in hot flashes, leading doctors to suggest that they might be useful for controlling hot flashes.
Both Zoloft and Paxil belong to a group of drugs known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor or SSRI. These drugs are approved by the FDA to treat depression and some are approved for the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder. They are not approved by the FDA to treat hot flashes, other symptoms related to menopause, nor are they approved to treat PMS, but doctors often prescribe them for these purposes.
Even though they are not approved by the FDA to relieve hot flashes, both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the North American Menopause Society recommend that women with moderate to severe, menopause related hot flashes should consider an SSRI, if they cannot or choose not to take hormone replacement therapy. Interestingly, a brochure released by the ACOG mentions that herbs and botanicals are not approved by the FDA, but they never mention that SSRI drugs are not approved by the FDA to treat menopausal symptoms.
One study concerning Paxil and hot flashes experienced by breast cancer survivors is similar to a more recent study concerning the use of black cohosh. (Black cohosh is an herb used traditionally by Native American healers and passed down from generation to generation for the relief of hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms.) As previously mentioned, women who have had breast cancer are unable to take estrogen replacement therapy, in fact they must take a drug that limits the effects of estrogen for several years following surgery. Even in women who are not near menopause, this drug causes severe hot flashes.
In the study of Paxil and hot flashes, the antidepressant was shown to reduce hot flash frequency by as much as 79%. Black cohosh was shown to reduce hot flash frequency by as much as 100%. Of the 90 women who participated in the black cohosh study, none reported adverse side effects and no one dropped out. Of the 30 women who participated in the study of Paxil and hot flashes, three (10%) dropped out because of drowsiness and one dropped out because of anxiety, a possible adverse reaction to Paxil.
Recently research was conducted by the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona concerning Zoloft and hot flashes. A group of women aged 40-65, currently suffering from hot flashes, but not taking hormone replacement therapy, were recruited. The researchers used a number called the "hot flash score", which is equal to the number of hot flashes a woman experiences multiplied by the numerical expression of their severity, to evaluate the effectiveness of the SSRI over a four week period. A similar study concerning black cohosh and hot flashes was conducted by the Mayo Clinic.
In the study of Zoloft and hot flashes, the average number of hot flashes the women experienced per week was 45. In the black cohosh trial, the average was 8 per day or 56 per week. Zoloft reduced the frequency of hot flashes by 5 per week or 11%. Black cohosh reduced the frequency by 28 per week or 50% and reduced the average "hot flash score" by 56%.

A hot tub cover is as important as the hot tub itself. This article tries to impart knowledge regarding the importance, selection and maintenance of hot tub covers.
This is the most obvious function of a hot tub cover. Just like any other type of cover for any type of container, the hot tub cover protects the tub from impurities such as leaves, trash, insects and the like. A hot tub cover is mostly important if the hot tub is located outdoors.
How many times have you heard that a child drowned inside a hot tub? This is a risk that parents have to take when they acquire a hot tub, and this is a risk that hot tub covers address. Hot tub covers make the tub more secure for unattended children and pets since they are usually very heavy. The heaviness of the tub covers is actually a good thing because small children will not be able to lift it up without the help of adults, keeping them away from the tubs when they are alone.
Direct sun exposure may harm the hot tub. A good hot tub cover should be able to protect the tub against the harmful effects of the sun. The thickness of and the material used for the cover are two of the most important factors to consider in purchasing a cover. Remember that outdoor hot tub covers will wear out more quickly than those that are indoors because of the torture it gets from sunlight exposure.
Maintaining hot tubs can be very expensive, especially if we factor in the electricity costs of maintaining the heat inside the tub. The covers of the tubs should be able to help retain the heat inside. Hot tub covers are usually insulated by a material called "expanded polystyrene." Actually, the thickness of the cover is the main determinant of its heat retaining capacity.
Most hot tub kits usually come with covers. However there maybe times that purchasing a new one is unavoidable. Here are some important things to remember when purchasing a hot tub cover
This is a crucial factor that is sometimes forgotten by those who purchase new hot tub covers. Even though there are written specifications regarding the size of the hot tubs, it would not hurt to double check with the manufacturer and the hot tub cover dealers.
The outer covering of the hot tube cover are made from different kinds of materials, as opposed to the insulating foam, which is basically the same in all types of hot tub covers. Make sure that the material is mildew resistant.
If there are children in the house, it would be better to purchase a cover which is heavier. Again, weight serves as a safety feature for hot tub covers. If there are no children, perhaps an easier-access model is more suitable.
